When I think about how long we have been traveling and all the places and things we have seen it is hard to believe it has only been a month and a half so far. Staying here in Michigan has been an amazing time, spent with great friends. Michigan is more or less our halfway point, from here it is westward toward home! We are estimating our arrival in the Portland area mid-late August. Thinking about our big adventure winding down is sad, but we are also anxious to get home and see our family and friends, as well as get started on some of our business ideas we have been tossing around. I am also excited to catch the last few weeks of the beautiful Oregon summer.
Our bus is feeling more and more like home every day, and I have no problem with that. It is interesting to see just how easy it is to live comfortably in a 240 square foot space, a year ago I never imagined we would be doing this. I am so proud of our bus, we have put over 6000 miles on her in the last 6 weeks without a single hiccup, except for our alternator dying on our trip across Ontario. If that is the worst thing to happen on this journey I will be so happy. Of course the more time we spend living and traveling in the bus, the more attached I get. I don’t imagine that it will be going anywhere soon once we get to Oregon. I already have big plans in my head to remodel the interior to create a more permanent living space, and fortunately Lindsey is totally on board with the idea. Real plumbing, a better designed kitchen area, a large roof deck, and a much bigger solar array are already in the plans. We may just end up being those crazy (debt free) people living in the old bus out on the farm. Life can’t get better than that.
We made this map to show our route so far. Photos courtesy of Keith Van Liere.
